Soft Tissue Injury Lawyer in Houston

Soft Tissue & Whiplash Injuries in Houston Texas Injury Accidents

Soft tissue injuries are caused by a variety of accidents and can occur in almost any area of the body.

While some of the more common causes of soft tissue injuries include automobile, motorcycle, 18-wheeler, bicycle, and pedestrian accidents, such injuries can also occur from slip-and-fall and sporting accidents as well, or even from the sudden wrong movement.

Soft tissue injuries affect ligaments, muscles, tendons, and surface tissue, and can be painful, long-lasting, and often require medical treatment. Unfortunately, for many people, a soft tissue injury not only means pain and suffering but also time off from work and possibly lost earnings.

If you suffered a soft tissue injury that was not your fault, you should consider filing a personal injury claim to be compensated for your injuries.

What are the different types of soft tissue injuries?

There are many different types of soft tissue injuries, and they vary in severity. However, all such injuries are caused by either extrinsic or intrinsic trauma:

  • Extrinsic trauma. This refers to when an injury occurs through contact with an external object, causing closed or open damage to the tissue. A common example would be an injury to the thigh through a collision in football.
  • Intrinsic trauma. This is when damage to the tissue is caused by over-contracting, over-stretching, or uncontrolled internal stress. An example of a soft tissue injury caused by intrinsic trauma would be a sprained ankle.

Although all soft tissue injuries are caused by either extrinsic or intrinsic trauma, there are various types of soft tissue injuries. Some of the most common injuries include:

  • Whiplash. This term refers to the injury that can occur when an accident or collision causes the head to suddenly snap backward and then forward, like a whip. It is often caused by car accidents, especially rear-end collisions.
  • Sprains. When the ligaments connecting bones to other bones are torn or stretched. A sprain can inhibit movement and cause bruising, swelling and pain.
  • Strains. When the tendons that connect muscles to bones are injured, it is called a strain.
  • Contusions. This is a medical term for what is commonly known as a bruise. While most bruises heal on their own within a week or two, bone contusions can be more serious and painful.
  • Pinched nerves. This occurs when too much pressure from bones, muscles, tendons, or cartilage disrupts the nerve’s function. Pinched nerves can be very painful.
